Week 2 and 3 Housebreaking Notes and Protocols

Notes:  On week 1, we had no accidents or issues with house training.  Week 2, there ended up being a time between 10am and 12pm that poop accidents would happen for a few days.  So I have been very on my toes during those times. Then on Week 3, we were back to no accidents again.

I know you have a doggie door, but you might want to escort him there during the times I will list and make sure he stays out there for 5 minutes (10 minutes if he is having an issue suddenly).  You will need to block the doggie door some way to make this happen.  I think what is happening at home is he is wanting to get back in with you.   Therefore, he does not take the time to be sure everything is done outside.

Protocols:

I have an article on some of the things we do.   I will post the link below.  Deeks was not too complicated though so you probably will only need to do a couple of things different.

Here are the times Deeks is most likely to need to go:

  • First thing when you wake up in the morning or if Deeks leaves your bed.   If he is crated, he tends to wake up 6:00am to 6:30am to go out FYI.  Usually Poops and pees.
  • After eating (just in case).  Will pee and poop if he did not do it earlier.
  • 10:15 am he goes out and during week 2 I was letting him out frequently between the hours of 10am to 12 pm or crating him or doing an exercise like sit on the dog with him. Deeks may poop during this time.
  • 1:00 pm is usually just a pee.
  • 3:00 pm he pees, and he may poop during this time.
  • 5:00 pm he usually pees.
  • 5:15 pm after eating I let him out just in case.
  • 6:15 pm he may poop at this time if he did not poop earlier
  • 9:15 pm (when we go to bed) he may pee and poop.
If he does not go to the dog door himself, I would escort him there.  I threw out food into the area to get him to go out at first.  This way going to the door when he likely needs to go becomes a habit.  He did start to go to doors or the place we let him out on his own on week 3.   I would not necessarily assume that will happen when he goes home without getting him used to this there.
